Thalian Association

Tracing its roots back to 1788, the Thalian Association was founded to provide arts education and bring the excitement of the performing arts to Wilmington, North Carolina.

Today, the Thalian Association is a non-profit, membership organization that's dedicated to enhancing the rich artistic environment of the Cape Fear region. In 2007, the North Carolina legislature formally recognized the Thalian Association as the State Community Theater.

The Thalian Association produces five major productions annually on the Main Stage of historic Thalian Hall. All of our productions are cast through auditions open to the general public. Through the production segment of our organization we offer the Thalian Association Children's Theater (TACT), providing hundreds of children the opportunity to participate in theater arts. Each year TACT produces five full length productions at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center. New for the 2011- 2012 season, TACT is now offering TACT Academy. The goal of TACT Academy is to provide technical training to children 7 to high school seniors in music, drama, dance and technical theater.

Aditionally the Thalian Association manges the Hannah Block Historic USO, home to Wilmington's Community Arts Center, offering classes in a wide array of artistic disciplines. As managers of the HBHUSO/Community Arts Center, TA is dedicated to providing performing and visual community arts groups who wish to rehearse, perform, display and teach their various art forms in a facility that represents a permanent home for the community arts at little to no charge.

Finally, we present the celebrated Orange Street Arts Fest, held every Memorial Day Weekend, now in its fiftenth year, providing a major showcase for local artists.
